The Need
What a difference a warm smile and sincere welcome makes in the lives of others! That is one of the primary goals of the usher. They have the unique privilege of making the first and lasting impression on a person who walks into the sanctuary. They can ease a visitor's transition from uneasy curiosity to security and enjoyment.
On the flip side, ushers also need to maintain order and orchestrate movements during the service. Satan uses distractions, disruptions and confusion to separate people from God's Word and the flow of the Spirit. So, ushers need to be the "guardians" of God's people during the service to minimize Satan's devices.
Primary Responsibilities
- Follow and accommodate the Pastor in any way shape or form so that his vision for the service is achieved.
- Meet and greet all members and visitors with the same warmth and love as the Pastor would himself.
- Direct all attendees to open and comfortable seats.
- Provide bulletins (and other materials) to everybody being seated if they don't have them already.
- Maintain order and orchestrate movement during the service as to minimize any distractions that can separate people from God's Word or the flow of the spirit.
- Cheerfully and reverently receive the offerings.
- Count all attendees in an invisible fashion.
- Liberally "seasons" all he/she does and says with love.
